*Every card you get in Moonfall goes into your Collection.*

Remember the smell of a new booster pack? **Remember Your First Booster Pack?** is a 32-second Moonfall film about that feeling. A pack tears open, a rare card slides into a sleeve, binder pages flip, and a shoebox of cards spills across a kitchen table. Moonfall's cards are not printed, but the rest is there, in your browser: packs to open, a Collection to fill and rare cards to find.

## What the film shows

The film imagines Moonfall's cards as printed cards on a kitchen table. Its pictures and its music were made with AI, and its caption says the rest: *“remember the smell of a new booster pack / the binder nobody else was allowed to touch / the shoebox under your bed / that feeling is back / play moonfall in your browser”*.

The binder page on the film's cover holds nine of the game's cards. Among them are Pebble Sprite, one of the humblest cards in the game, and Pitch Wyvern, the dragon it becomes in four fusions; [Can you fuse a pebble into a dragon in Moonfall?](https://moonfall.io/blog/pebble-to-dragon) follows that chain. Cards fused in a film may come out differently in your game, because each pair's result is decided the first time anyone fuses it.

## The packs people remember

For many players, the first pack came from a trading card game: Magic: The Gathering, made by Wizards of the Coast since 1993; the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which began in Japan in 1996 and is published today by The Pokémon Company; or Konami's Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME, sold in North America since 2002. Newer games fill binders too, among them Flesh and Blood from Legend Story Studios (2019), Bandai's ONE PIECE CARD GAME (2022) and Disney Lorcana from Ravensburger (2023).

Before and beside them came baseball cards, which Topps first printed in 1951, and the World Cup sticker albums Panini has published since 1970, filled one packet at a time and finished by swapping doubles with friends.

## Opening a pack

Card packs are on the Card Packs tab of your **Collection**. You buy a pack with **Stardust**, which comes from the Moon Store and from your sales on the Moon Exchange. Then you pull the pack's ribbon seal down to open it, and tap the cards to reveal and claim them one at a time. The current price and odds are shown with the offer before you buy. Your first pack also unlocks a cardback.

Stardust is not the only way to get a pack. A new quest arrives each day: win a set number of matches with a named card in your deck, and the reward is a card pack. Extra copies of pack cards can also be exchanged for new packs, and the exchange always keeps one Normal and one Stellar copy of each card.

## The binder is your Collection

Every card you get goes into your Collection: the cards you claim from packs, the cards you discover in the Moon Foundry, and the copies and Stellar cards you craft. It is a record of what you have had, not a catalogue of the whole game. A card you have never had does not appear in it at all, so a card that is new to you adds a new entry. You build your decks from it.

Cards from packs stay in your Collection. They cannot be listed on the Moon Exchange, and the extra-copy exchange never takes your last copy. The cards you can sell are the ones you discover in the Moon Foundry: once you have won ten matches, you can list copies of them for Stardust. [Can you sell the cards you discover in Moonfall?](https://moonfall.io/blog/selling-discovered-cards) explains that market.

## The rare card is a Stellar card

In the film, the rare cards shine with foil. In Moonfall, the rare form of a card is a **Stellar** card: the same card, animated. It moves in a silent loop, and when it is played, a Stellar character has a voiced summon and a Stellar spell plays its own cast, with sound effects and no voice.

There are two ways to get one. A pack can wake a Stellar card, when the odds land on a card that already has a finished Stellar animation; the odds are shown before you buy. Or you can craft a Stellar copy of a card you have, from your Collection, for Stardust. The price is on the button, and you craft one Stellar at a time. Your first Stellar craft unlocks the Stellar Crucible cardback, and the Stellar filter in your Collection shows only your Stellar cards. Moonfall makes its Stellar animations with AI, and AI output can still be imperfect.
